HI chaps

well changed the car again , got rid of the ole s3 in favour of another tt 225
anyways as ever anything euro over here is soooo overpriced its in for the 90'000 km service ie cam belt etc
so I thought I'd get the pixles on the dash done at the same time .
Dropped the car off Monday , picked the dash up Monday arvo , took it to the 'special' guy to do
rang him this arvo (Tuesday) to pick up , 'oh, we've not got that lcd and its 3 weeks wait from Europe and it's going to cost you
$500 plus gst ($550) so I told him to go fuck him self and i'll pick my dash up tommro and take back to the garage that's doing the service ......
so
can I do this with a dam good soldering iron my self ?
does it affect the imobiliser
if so where can I buy the lcd apart from ebay , I was prepared to do it on the s3 but sold it before I got my arse into gear .....

any help would be great as any garage over thinks if you drive anything euro your loaded , the cam belt service alone is costing $2500

From what ive heard its a very delicate job, if your not confident with a soldering iron and very patient id leave it to someone that's done it before,

Its a bit of a nightmare tbh. You can buy them over here for about £30 posted off ebay - although the screen is gloss not matte which is oem. They may be able to be bought now off eBay now though tbf, but when i did mine that's the only option i had.

Its a fiddly job, very fiddly. But it is possible. You need a good temperature controlled soldering iron, with a very small needle like tip.

There are a few youtube videos out there which show you how to do it.

And no it doesn't affect the immobiliser.
