Alt rebuild

Okay if you haven’t given up with the bolts you can carry on with me Laughing The case needs to be split now, It all went a bit wrong for me at this point as I’d not done this before and I wasn’t sure how it came apart!
You want to lay the alternator on it's side and using a flat bladed screwdriver follow the band around tapping on the edge of the front of the case all the way round till it comes off. You want the band and all the electrical bits to stay in the rear of the case. I took the rear off and the band piece was stuck in the front so caused me a few headaches.
Rear with rectifier and band still inside.

Now that you have the front off, you can lift out the rotor from the rear of the case.

The arrow is pointing at the thrust washer this needs to be removed. I don't have a picture of what I done here. I clamped the sides of the washer in a vice and then tapped the rotor through it to get it off, take note of it's orientation before you remove it completely
Now I thought I’d pop the seals of the bearings to have a look inside, the rear smaller one was completely dry and had no grease left in it at all, whilst the front larger one still had some.

Bearings are only cheap and rather than re-pack them with grease I figured it was best to fit new
